Schillerplatz

• 1942, September 28, Tuesday toward evening – Eva appeared, very tired and embittered by town and begging errands and loaded with over 16 pounds of potatoes from Frau Winde. In addition, she brought the news that the little stand at Schillerplatz (which is friendly to Jews) had set aside a hundredweight of potatoes for us. Immediately after eating (my shopping hour three till four!) I went out with the Rasches’ old high-wheeled pram. The heavy sack was loaded very precariously on the rickety vehicle, and other things I had got, apples and tomatoes, were stuffed underneath. **p264
